Fabric Prints

Moulding/Profile- This is the visible and decorative part of the picture frame, that also the basic structure of the frame. This is usually wood but sometimes metal in a quality frame.

Glazing- This is the transparent layer of glass or acrylic/perspex that covers the top of the picture. The glazing serves to protect the photo against the elements. Glazing can also UV protection and anti-glare capabilities. At Darkstar Digital we have three options. Glass, Perspex and Art Glass.

Glass-  Is our base glazing solution protecting your art from the elements and giving some UV light protection.

Perspex- Is the next step up from glass in protection. Perspex  is lightweight, shatter-resistant, crystal clear and offer higherUV light protection.

Art Glass- Is the non reflective, crystal clear option making you artwork the most visible and giving high UV light protions but will break like glass.

Mat window-This is a layer of archival board cut with a window hole in the center that reveals the artwork, framing it and giving space between the work and the frame profile. The mat window as it sits between the glazing and artwork it works to keep the glazing from coming in contact with the artwork preventing damge from temperature and humidity changes in the external enviroment.

Recess/Spacers- Recess is the gap between the glazing and artwork created by a spacer instead of a mat. The spacer hiden from view runs around the edge of the frame between the glazing and art work. There are the options of a 3mm, 12mm or 25mm recess. The two larger recess options are used in conjuction with a box frame profile that has more depth. 3mm recess spacers are used as a standard if a mat window is not being used.

Hinge mounting – This is one way of attaching a photo on to the mounting board. This involves the use of adhesive strips or tape in a way that the tape is not visible and the photo hangs free to expand and contract as it reacts to humidity and temperature.

UV Rays- The sun’s (and even artificial light’s) ultraviolet rays which can cause damage to the photo, causing the photo to become brittle and faded. To prevent this, choose a glazing with UV protection.
